Why was Salman Khan embarrassed?

0
The Jai Ho star has had a track record at the box office and yet there are somethings that make even this superstar blush

Salman Khan is one of the few actors in B-town who can be proud about his films’ track record, no critic or flop has decided the fate of this star and yet there are some films that he would like to erase from his memory. Recently the Dabangg Khan was at the ETC office for an interview and an avid reader of trade magazines, Sallu seemed to chat about films and more. While he could have harped upon his recent success’ SK decided to talk about some movies that make him go red in the face. Sallu said, “When I saw Biwi Ho To Aisi, I was so embarrassed. I thought this was pack up for me. In fact, later when I met the Bihariji a few years later, he told me he saw nothing in me. He just took e in the film because I was Salim Khan’s son.”

Today, the Kick hero’s dad must feel really proud calling himself Salman Khan’s father. While many of his friends, co-stars and contemporaries have gone ga-ga about the phenomena called ‘Salman Khan’, the actor himself thinks otherwise, “The harder you work, the luckier you get. A star alone cannot break records, the film also has to be good. There have been times when we laughed our heads off while watching the films we made but then we realized that nobody laughed!”

While Sallu might have delivered several memorable films with Sooraj Barjatya, it might come as a surprise to many that the actor was never keen on working with Rajshri films and here’s why, “I was forced to go meet Sooraj Barjatya – I dint want to do a Rajshri film because the male leads of his films wore dhoti and all – I felt where did I fit in there!” The actor will soon be working with the banner on Bade Bhaiyya and if the buzz is to be believed his co-star will be none other than his arch rival’s favourite heroine Deepika Padukone.

For this Khan family comes first, its no surprise that we have often seen him make special appearances and act in his brothers and brother-in-law’s films. The actor thinks highly of his brothers who have turned filmmakers, “Arbaaz is very methodical. Both he and Sohail have the right temperament to direct films. Both find long movies boring and pakao and hence they keep their films short. The final edit of my film was over-seen by me, keeping my fans in mind. Longevity of the film matters more than the 1st day collections.”

That’s not it, he is already setting his eyes for a new box-office record and more this time around. Salman wants to make Jai Ho and exceptional films, the actor said, “Since ticket prices are so high these days, we are trying to make the film tax-free.”

Well, wishing the Jai Ho star and his star cast all the very best, and while the film’s fate will be decided this Friday when it hits the theatres. You can watch Salman Khan‘s complete interview on ETC Bollywood Business at 8.30pm!

Jai Ho! Godfather Salman Khan gives pals and kin a shot at success

Salman Khan's upcoming release Jai Ho will once again confirm his status as Bollywood's favourite godfather. The official remake of Chiranjeevi's Telugu film Stalin re-launches Salman's brother Sohail Khan as a director, besides introducing some new faces and bringing back some forgotten ones.

Actors Tabu and Suniel Shetty, both of whom have only made sporadic appearances on the big screen over the last decade, return with prominent roles in Jai Ho . While the The Namesake star plays Salman's sister Ria Agnihotri, Suniel will bring to life the character of officer Ranvir Kaul.

Salman's massive launchpad will also wheedle out from oblivion a few actors whose attempts at a film career failed to yield any results. Among them is Sharad Kapoor, who played the villain in Sushmita Sen's debut Bollywood film Dastak ( 1996) and the SRK- Aishwarya Rai- starrer Josh ( 2000) before disappearing from the scene altogether.

Salman Khan Says Jai Ho In Advance

Jai Ho poster 03As predicted, Salman Khan’s Jai Ho has opened to a good response at the ticket windows. It’s been a conscious decision by Salman to release his film in more single screens targeting the common man.
In both Mumbai and Pune, cinema halls have started the advance booking and are witnessing a great start for the film with tickets getting sold like hot cakes. Even in Bangalore, advance bookings started with a bang and tickets are almost sold out for the first day.
However in Delhi, advanced booking have started only in the major single screens and multiplexes.  In small cities like Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad, advance booking has not started yet.
An interesting phenomenon has emerged as far as the promotion of Jai Ho is concerned. Ever since the time when the film went on floors, the whole focus has been on Salman. Now even as the film is about to hit the theaters, the buzz is more about Salman rather that his film Jai Ho.
Jai Ho is being released at a record screen count in India as well as in the overseas market. Salman Khan is not just the name of a Bollywood superstar. Salman Khan is a dream, a hope and religion for those who love cinema.
“Today it is about 200 crore, 300 crore or 400 crore. But I don’t see it that way. There is no ego that if Shah Rukh or Aamir’s film has done ‘x’ business, then my film should also do so and cross it. I wish and hope everybody’s film should do well so that the business is more, and our industry grows,” roared Salman Khan, while answering a question recently.
Will Jai Ho be able to match up to or break the records set by Dhoom 3?
We shall get our answer on January 24, 2014.

Jai Ho: Can Salman Khan win the box-office game?

New Delhi: This time, he is at ease. The eagerness of 'Ek Tha Tiger' and 'Dabangg 2' is absent. Also, he seems to have left behind the crazy hype of Rs 100 crore club. Salman Khan is promoting his forthcoming film 'Jai Ho' through all possible means, but the old anxiety is not visible on his face. Does this mean, he has finally come to terms with the unpredictability of the box-office? Or, he is extremely sure of his success?
The man has changed for sure. The 'Koffee With Karan' interview is a proof that he has learnt to take jokes in his stride. The way he hugged Shah Rukh Khan at a recently concluded award show also showed his maturity and willingness to move on in life.
Though Sohail Khan is the director of 'Jai Ho', but the onus was always on Salman to publicise it. The first trailer was received with enthusiasm as it was said to be the story of a common man, the flavour of the season.
Jai Ho: Can Salman Khan win the box-office game?

'Ek Tha Tiger' managed to garner Rs 198 crore while 'Dabangg 2' gathered close to Rs 148 crore.

However, the songs of the film failed to create the kind of buzz Fevicol or Munni did, but he is supplementing it with interviews and public appearances.
After the super-success of 'Chennai Express', 'Krrish 3' and 'Dhoom 3', the trade pundits are looking forward to 'Jai Ho' and whether it can create its own records or not.
'Ek Tha Tiger' managed to garner Rs 198 crore while 'Dabangg 2' gathered close to Rs 148 crore.
Meanwhile, 'Chennai Express', 'Krrish 3' and 'Dhoom 3' collected Rs 227 cr, Rs 244 cr and Rs 260 cr respectively. 'Dhoom 3' drowned many records in the overseas markets as well.
Can Salman Khan be able to rise to the occasion and break these records? Only time will tell.

Salman Khan is the Amitabh Bachchan of the 80s: Danny

Danny Denzongpa is simple and adorable. He is a perfectionist, a recluse and a stickler for time. While he himself is a farmer's son and his wife from the royalty, he is every bit of royalty himself when you meet him, be it his body language, his style or the way he plays host. I met him at his serene, stylish Juhu bungalow over a cup of coffee. Aping Salman Khan I decided to call him Dannysan. He was extremely particular in the way he served me coffee and played a very warm host. He considers himself quite unemotional but is extremely sensitive to any sound around him. Ahead of his upcoming film Jai Ho, over an hour-long conversation, he spoke to Bombay Times about being a recluse, not being a good father and how Salman Khan is the Amitabh Bachchan of the 80s. Excerpts:

Talk about your background?

I was born in a village in Sikkim called Yuksom. For 14 generations, we have been Buddhist monks. We were seven brothers and four sisters and I was the youngest. The age difference between my eldest sister and me was 42 years. I did not become a monk as I studied in Sikkim and then did my college in Darjeeling, after which I wanted to join the army. But this was the time when we had the India-China war and a lot of young soldiers from our village died. When their bodies were brought back, there was mass mourning and my mother did not want me to join the army. I did not want to disrespect her feelings and applied to FTII instead and was selected in the acting course. Professor Taneja, who selected me, later told me that there were many boys who were good-looking and good actors, but they were all copying other film actors. He selected me as he found me to be original. When I was at FTII, that was the best education I had, but again due to the China war, I couldn't go out, so I would watch three films everyday. Wherever I went in Pune, people would throw pebbles at me saying 'Cheena Cheena.' Years later, in Agneepath when Mukul Anand wanted to name my character Kancha, I suggested Kancha Cheena.

Even though you have a bungalow in Juhu, we hardly see you. Where do you spend your time?

I have this farm land in Sikkim, where I spend at least five months in a year, especially during summer, as I can't bear the heat. There is a fence from all sides, there is a gate that I lock and put the key in my pocket. It is 50 acres of jungles with 1000-year-old hollow trees that you can stand under, there are animals, birds and a vegetable garden and it's beautiful. I am most peaceful when I am alone there. When my wife and kids come there, it becomes all hulla gulla and gets polluted with all the packets that they bring along with them. I have two servants there, who know the jungle well. I wake up at 4am and I'm busy in the jungle, all day. I feel at home there. I will go pick up my fruits and vegetables and make food. I had a genset that I have disconnected as it makes too much noise. Sometimes there is no electricity, but at times even when there is electricity, I switch it off and light up candles or a fire. I am a recluse and find Mumbai too noisy.

Salman Khan's 'Jai Ho' gets U/A certificate with cuts?

Salman Khan

The film has been reportedly passed by the Central Board of Film Certification with a U/A certificate and a number of cuts.

Superstar Salman Khan's young fans, who form a sizeable slice of his mammoth fan-following, may need to be accompanied by adults to be able to see his latest film "Jai Ho".
The film has been reportedly passed by the Central Board of Film Certification with a U/A certificate and a number of cuts.
"Actually, this is quite an unusual situation for a Salman-starrer. His films are usually passed with a 'U' certificate with minimum or no cuts. But 'Jai Ho' is a political thriller about a common man's successful attempt to foil an assassination bid against a chief minister," said a source.
"There are many very hard-hitting dialogues against corruption in present-day Indian politics. This is Salman's first film with a strong political statement," added the source.
It is said that the censor board asked for some of Salman's tirade against corrupt politicians and their dubious politics to be toned down or beeped out.
"There were no abusive dialogues. Salman doesn't abuse on screen. But there are several references to current politics that could have made real-life politicians uncomfortable. These have gone. Also, some seconds from a few action scenes that were found to be lengthy," said the source.
With the cuts and the 'U/A' certificate, "Jai Ho" becomes Salman's first censor-restricted film.
The film will come out Jan 24.

Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan’s three best hugs ever – View pics!

Shahrukh-Khan-Salman-Khan-(4)

The Dabangg Khan and King Khan definitely know how to get the shutterbugs crazy…

Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan’s public hugs have made headlines and this Khan duo totally enjoys it. While their animosity and friendship both make for good headlines and spicy tales, we tell you few reasons why the Jai Ho star and Happy New Year‘s hero’s coming together is a delight to watch and take you down the memory lane through three best hugs of Sallu-SRK!Salman Khan recently in an interview confessed how competing Bollywood actors love to bring each other down, trust us both these Khans have spared no opportunity to poke fun at each other – be it interviews or then award shows you will see ample of SRK-Salman war designer for commercial viewing. If taking digs at each other is their pass time, then bringing the Khan war at the box office is their favourite hobby.  So every time one Khan breaks the other one’s record there is an open challenge and an untold war that is declared. Not to forget the Bollywood camps, they have a fixed set of friends, co-stars, directors. However slowly these clearly drawn lines of Salman-Shahrukh camp is blurring. So, then will we see them hug and make up?
We wish, but according to Sallu’s writer father it’s a mission impossible. The Salim Khan explained why, ”They are two individuals, grown up people. I think there cannot be love between rivals. There can be courtesy. To have love between Salman and Shahrukh is not possible. One should not expect that if Shahrukh’s film is a success then Salman will dance and celebrate. Or if Salman’s film is a hit so Shahrukh will throw a party. It’s not possible.”
But, at the recently held Guid Awards both the Khans hugged each other in full industry and media glare, which became yet another moment. Here’s a look at three such moments that had us in a tizzy!
Salman-Shahrukh’s Jai Ho moment: It was SRK’s time to celebrate his win at the Star Guild awards this year, Salman handed out the trophy to his arch rival for the best entertainer of the year. But he had already made it obvious why 2013 wasn’t a great for Bollywood. According to Sallu last year was a bakwaas year as he did not have any release. And even if he congratulated SRK on stage he made sure that King Khan became a part of his Jai Ho promotions.
The best Iftaar party in town: Thanks to Salman Khan exchanging a warm hug with Shahrukh and greeting him, politician friend Baba Sddiqui’s iftaar bash became the most popular event of 2013. The first time warring Khan’s had ever come together after their big fight at ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif’s birthday party.

What is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s role in Salman Khan’s Kick?

What is Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s role in Salman Khan’s Kick?

The Miss Lovely actor plays an important role in Dabangg‘s film Kick

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, will be seen in Salman Khan starrer Kick and the actor is excited as this is not one of those a blink-and-you-miss-it roles that he has played in Aamir Khan’s films Sarfarosh. Earlier, Nawazuddin appeared in commercial films Talaash, Aaja Nachle and others. Now, he will be seen in the mass entertainer Kick. The actor said in an interview, “It is not that I will do a blink-and-you-miss-it role in a big commercial film of A-list actors. The story (of Kick) is good, hence I agreed to do it. The story is superb. The script inspired me to do the film. I am not against all commercial films, I am against illogical films. All commercial films are not illogical. Like 3 Idiots was a commercial film and had a very good story.”
With the image of Salman and the kind of films he does, the entire focus is on him than other actors. But, Nawazuddin does not feel so. “The character that I have been offered is really good, it has logic to whatever he does. As an actor I must explore myself in every genre,” he said.
There is buzz that he is playing a negative role. When asked about it, Nawazuddin, who is yet to start shooting for the film, declined to reveal anything. But, the actor expressed that he would continue doing supporting roles in films that have established actors and do lead roles in relatively newer director’s film. “I try to balance things this way. For me the character and story inspire me to do a film. If I connect with it then I do it, that is my criteria to do a film. I don`t think about the result

Salman Khan’s bracelet stirred up fans' frenzy

The news that Salman Khan will distribute replicas of his lucky charm — a firoza bracelet — during the promotion of Jai Ho, directed by Sohail Khan, seems to have stirred fan frenzy.

In every city Salman visited to promote the film, produced by Sunil Lulla and Sohail Khan, huge crowds gathered, asking for the bracelet.

In some places, like Salman's hometown Indore, it even led to mass hysteria. When the actor handed over the bracelet to a 10-year-old fan, many people tried snatching it from the child, leading to commotion.

Fortunately, Salman's team spotted the ruckus and distributed the accessory among everyone to pacify the crowd.

Jai Ho, produced by Eros International and Sohail Khan Productionz, releases January 24.

Narendra Modi needn't apologize for riots, but I don't back him for PM post: Salman Khan

NEW DELHI/PATNA: Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who was recently seen flying kites with Narendra Modi, has said the Gujarat CM should not apologize for the 2002 riots as he had been given a clean chit by the court.

"Why would Modi say sorry if he is not responsible for it? And if he is responsible for it, why (did) the judiciary gave him a clean chit, why nothing happened?(sic)" the actor said in an interview to Headlines Today.

However, Salman said he was not in a position yet to endorse anyone for the Prime Minister's post. "Don't want to take any name regarding the best candidate for the PM post as I do not want my judgment to influence millions of fans across India," he said.

The actor said he had gone to Gujarat to promote his latest film, not to endorse Modi. But he added that "Modi is very cultured. I had an amazing interaction with him. I am impressed by the development in Gujarat and the way women in my team were treated. Modi treated my sister in a very respectful manner".

Reacting to Salman's comments, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Monday described the Gujarat riots as "unforgivable and unforgettable".

He indicated that JD(U) would highlight the riots just like Congress did in the 2004 and 2009 general elections. Nitish, a former railway minister, made fun of Modi's declaration that he would introduce a bullet train after becoming the PM. "This idea was mooted when Indira Gandhi was the PM and there was a plan to develop high-speed corridor. Later, we found it unviable because it needed huge funds and vast chunks of land," he said.

"It is easier said than done and some people have a habit of making such tall promises. The basic question is whether a BJP-led government would be formed at the Centre," Nitish said. About an alliance with Ramvilas Paswan's LJP, he said, "I respect Paswan. It is up to him to decide what sort of alliance he wants." He also rubbished speculation of an alliance with Congress.

When Comedy Nights' Ali Asgar turned down Salman Khan's film Kick

TV actor Ali Asgar, popular as 'dadi' on "Comedy Nights With Kapil", says superstar Salman Khan offered him a role in "Kick", but he could not do it because of his prior commitments to daily soaps.

However, Ali, who worked with Salman in "Partner", hopes to work with the superstar again in future.

"I got an offer for the film ('Kick'), when we went for 'Bigg Boss Saath-7'. There, Salman bhai asked me to do a film. On the sets, Salman said: 'Will you do a film with me?' I said, 'Yes, sir'. Then within one or two weeks I got the offer for the film," Ali told reporters here at India Kids Fashion Week.

"But unfortunately I could not do (that film) because of my daily soaps. But I hope somewhere down the line, I will get to work with him again," he added.

Besides, "Comedy Nights With Kapil", Ali is also working on another show "Jeannie Aur Juju" on SAB TV.

Produced and directed by Sajid Nadiadwala, "Kick" features Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead role. It is slated to release in July.

Recently, Salman visited the sets of the show "Comedy Nights With Kapil" to promote his film "Jai Ho" and Ali enjoyed shooting with the actor and is all praise for his "down to earth" attitude.

"He (Salman Khan) enjoyed a lot and we didn't feel that he is such a big star, though he is. He is such a down to earth person and makes everyone relax," Ali said."He shot till 3 a.m. for 'Comedy Nights With Kapil'. It was an amazing episode," he added

Nach Baliye 6: Salman Khan to promote Jai Ho on the dance reality show!

Now that Bigg Boss 7 is over, the Dabangg Khan is gearing up to promote his upcoming film Jai Ho

Though Salman Khan was plugging his film Jai Ho on BB7, he was not doing the rounds of other TV shows. However, that’s changing now and Salman will soon be seen on Nach Baliye 6. The superstar is slated to shoot for the promo tomorrow. A source says that besides trying to get him to dance on the show, the channel also wants him to host a small segment. “They are currently in talks with him,” adds the source. It remains to be seen whether Salman will agree considering he was hosting Bigg Boss.
Interestingly, when Madhuri Dixit wanted to promote Dedh Ishqiya on NB6, the channel apparently was not keen, because she is the face of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, a show on rival channel Colors. Isn’t Salman also hosting a show on the same channel? “Yes, but he has a Rs 500-crore deal with the Star Network for his films,” explains the source.

Is Salman Khan trying to bring Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha closer together?

Is Salman Khan trying to bring Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha closer together?

The Dabangg Khan thinks that Sona and Fubu make a good pair…

Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha make a good jodi. No, we aren’t saying that; it’s Salman Khan who thinks so. Yes, you got us right! But what made him say that, you ask? Well, the story goes something like this….
Salman had quite a celebration on New Year’s Eve at his home with family and a few friends present. Sonakshi and Arjun were present at the do and we hear that they bonded with each other really well. The young stars were seen hanging out and chatting with each other. That’s not all. The Kapoor lad was all praises for Sonakshi, and was heard telling her how Lootera was one of his favourite films of 2013. Salman noticed this bonding between the two and he told Sonakshi that he would like to see her and Arjun working together in a film, as they make a really good pair.
But perhaps Salman doesn’t know that his wish has already come true – Sonakshi and Arjun have signed a film together called Tevar. It is the official remake of the Telugu film Okkadu, and will be directed by Amit Sharma, the man behind the famous Google Reunion advertisement. Now that should be quite a fab, fun film, hai na?
But did Salman just suggest a professional partnership? Or was there more to his trying to bring his proteges together….we wonder. Alia Bhatt, are you listening?
